Art of the beautiful gamePosted by kiz7472o in Untagged |

What an absolutely fantastic idea: a collection of football-inspired art-works by leading contemporary artists from all over world. Powered by the 2010 Fine Art Consortium, the 2010 Fine Art exhibitions will be hosted at galleries around the country. And Durban gets to host the entire collection until July 31 at the Suncoast Casino and Entertainment World.
This superb exhibition was opened to the public at a very swish cocktail party where guests were able to admire the beautifully displayed works and interact with some of the artists. Craig Mark, the genius behind this exciting project, addressed the audience and explained that his inspiration for the exhibition was his passion for African art and a powerful belief that the World Cup was an opportunity to bring the world to Africa and to take Africa to the world - through art. "In addition to combining the creative talents of 160 of the world's leading contemporary artists into one exceptional international collection,
2010 Fine Art is also providing African artists with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to market their talents to international audiences through the platform of the World Cup," said Mark. "Whether you are an artist or a sportsman, a collector or a fan, I invite you to enjoy the works in our collections and to share in our excitement about this ground-breaking African fine-art venture." The works are certainly of an exceptional standard and the exhibition reveals fascinating insights into attitudes and concepts regarding Africa as host to the World Cup. SA is well represented with such artists as Barbara Ploner, whose football-playing warriors abound on dry landscape backgrounds, the intriguing work of Cape Town's Gavin Rain and the magnificent low-light photographic images of the World Cup stadiums by Dennis Guichard.
